Stiff upper lip.
« on: February 22, 2010, 09:30:19 AM »
My dad died before I reached puberty, so shaving has always been interesting. Lately I've been suffering razor burn while eliminating the omnipresent neckbeard so common among the nerd set.

Now I won't be a neckbeard, and I take a razor to it whenever I can, but it was seriously hurting after shaving. I shave in the shower as to make sure my face is wet for easier shaving, and less razor burn. After shaving, the neck area would turn red and hurt. I tried changing shaving creams, I tried changing razors.

So I bought some aftershave. The relief was near complete, no red neck, and no irritation.

Now the mustache line on the other hand, felt like a wound being sanitized with steel wool. golly it burns.

For about the last 15years I have only shaved with shaving oil and a triple blade razor.  I have never had a shaving rash, knicked myself nor has any whisker offered any noticable resistance.  Another good side effect is that it makes your skin look considerably younger.
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

There is an exception to every rule, apart from this one.

Yeah, I used to get bad shaving rash & cuts from a one blade razor. It seems the more blades the less problems you get from a shave, my current one has five blades - six if you count the sideburn/beard trimmer on the end (Gillette fusion). I'd recommend it.

8ullfrog, I'm glad the aftershave has worked for you.  One thing you have to be careful about when shaving in the shower is that you don't shave last.  After a bit of time in the shower, your skin will absorb some of the water and become slightly "puffed" which could lead to increased nicks.  I always shave first thing.

Hehe, sorry if I seemed to have been picking on you goldshirt.

I use up 100% of the hot water when I take my showers, it's one of the few things that relieves my horrid asthma. With the cold lately (southern California cold is the gentlest sort) I've been in considerable pain.

Hhhhmmm....thats  unusual 8ullfrog. My nephew has asthma and the doctor tells his mom to keep their house cool and dry. Im sure there must be a wide range of methods to help control it. Gotta do what works for you right?
