Artery murder 5000.
« on: June 08, 2013, 07:11:29 PM »
Mom is not a chef, but she likes trying new things. She noticed the velveeta box has recipes.

So she started off with a tray of bacon, crumbling it when it was done.

Next she sliced off 8 oz. of Velveeta.

Next she browned a pound of hamburger

Next she made me mix the Velveeta, hamburger, and bacon mix.

At first I was worried because there was no base, but the Velveeta melted into a sticky, gooey base.

Next she rolled out a pizza crust on a cookie sheet and dumped all the cheesy meat at the bottom.
She turned the frying pan over. When I say she dumped it, I am not exaggerating for effect.

So I frantically scooped it along the dough so it wouldn't explode in the oven. She yelled at me for getting "In the way".

Next she rolled this behemoth of meat into a roll.

It is now baking in the oven. Recipe calls for 20 minutes, it will probably be done in 15.

Straight ride to hell awesome.

Seriously, might change up the fillings for something more healthy, but this is in the rotation for good. It's ultra portable once you slice it, you could toss it in a lunchbox and be set. Utensil free eating. At first I thought it was going to be like a chimichanga, so I had a knife and fork, but the crust was nice and solid, so I could just hold it like a sandwich.

Since I had an end piece it was actually better than a sandwich, full containment.

A nice coincidence is that the roll fits perfectly in my leftover bins, so there is no waste!

My grandmother used to use velveeta in mac and cheese.  She'd mix in a jar of her homemade canned tomatoes.  It was delicious.

But a whole package of bacon and ground beef?  Yup.

Artery murder 5k is about right.  Glad you are enjoying your ride.

Looks.... interesting.

Personally I'd prefer to kill myself on cocaine and beer, but that's just me.

My hubby would shed tears of joy if I cooked this for him.  :D
I don't care much about the filling but the dough on the other hand looks fantastic!

It's just an el cheapo pizza dough. You can fill it with just about anything.

It wasn't a whole package of bacon. While mom cooked the entire pack, most of it went into leftover tubs.

It was about six pieces of bacon crumbled.

I think the cheese is probably the "worst" part. I'd substitute it for a marinara. But baby steps for moms burgeoning cooking career. Just follow the recipe to the letter, and everything will be fine.

I keep seeing posts like this on Imgur and I don't see the appeal. I can see the appeal of the items separately, but I imagine smushing all that stuff into a sandwich would taste like hobo ass.

In the case of what I made, it's essentially a rolled bacon cheeseburger.

Sorry. I phrased my post wrong. I wasn't directly talking about the meal you made, which I can understand and it doesn't look like it would be gross tasting.
I chose to post here mainly for the topic title, and my post was intended to be a continuation on that topic, specifically those "meat+cheese+different meat+more cheese+another different meat+sauce in a loaf of bread squished together on the living room floor" images I see on Imgur fairly regularly. They just look like they would be
A.) expensive
II.) a lot of work
4.) not very good tasting

That one is called a squish sandwich, and I saw it earlier too.

A combo sub is fairly similar in contents, but smaller portions of meat are used, and there are more vegetables.

the squish sandwich is pretty much an english breakfast, isn't it?

Oh, they forgot the beans and the fried tomatoes.

I made a cheeseburger meatloaf once, the instructions were fairly complicated, and it ended up just making me feel sick from the sheer level of calories. Delicious, but actually painful to eat.

It's not entirely clear from the picture I took, but the loaf is about as big around as a burrito, and the plate is actually a saucer. I use those when I eat at my desk.

Waaaay too much meat for one sandwich. My husband might disagree though.

Why 5000?  Is that the number of calories, or your expected blood cholesterol count after consumption?

Like a race car. Or Powerman 5000.

To be fair, I didn't go as bless'ed insane as that squish sandwich.
