Streaming Video --- PC to PS3
« on: April 21, 2010, 03:39:53 PM »
Nephew just got a PS3

So I installed 'TVersity Media Server' so he could Stream some Films off my HD

Works on most things --- Even an MKV

Failures = Some RMVB's (Reals),  FLV's = No Chance
and Subtitles just will not show ?!?!

Anybody do likewise ?

I have a PS3 but haven't tried any of this yet.   Do you mean it streams from your PC or an external hdd you connect to the PS3?  I did just pick up Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock for $20 on www.1saleaday.com so I'll have that to mess with if I can't get vid streaming going.

I don't have a PS3, but..netflix is supposed to start streaming to Wii. When it does, I'm setting my Wii up for it.

-oh.. I just looked, and they're already doing it..  :P I've been busy enough that I have my Netflix que and subscription on hold... When I get time, and confgure it I'll update here.

Ever since I bricked my router I haven't had time to backtrack and figure out how I want to do all my wireless... I keep putting it on hold ::) I need to just sit down one day, and get it done.

i use tversity also.
as you have stated some movies will play and some not.
sound on some movies and some not.
i also have this problem.
depending on where you d/load them from  ;) look to see if they play on ps3 and xbox.
i usually d/load from the same person and have no problem.

its to do with the formats xvid/divx/mp4 formats and i have no idea why some play and some dont.
i have had the same films with the same ripped codecs and some play and some not play
when you investigated further you find some are divx and some xvid and then the
sound codecs come into play  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(  :D
stick with a person's rips  you know works.
blue ray up to 2 gb are fantastic.
stay away from movies that are joined half way. you find that you have to restart the movie to play the second half.  ??? ???  .
its a good piece of kit but does have its quirks.
i find most mk4 files are good.
