Beautiful hair! I think I have pretty hair but that dog? Geez, it belongs to a shampoo commercial.

I know how most peoples pets fall into the feline or canine persuasion but I have a little babie that I love so much who is suffering with an abscess on her neck that is close to the size of her head. Ive had to wait almost 2 weeks to save the money to take her to a specialist who can perform a removal surgery in hopes that she will survive. Guinea pigs life span is only 4-6 years and she is 4 so I guess its a fools game at this point but I love this silly little creature and I want her to spend as many days with my family as I can. I get it.... most would say "Its a rodent why bother" but I love her and her male partner. 3 cheers to Vince and Howard that they will be able to share their golden years together!!! (Howard is a chick by the way....blame my kid.)

They miss each other so much as they have to stay separate so Vince doesnt get any of the infection that she is storing.

That'd be a stupid thing to say.

What was the origin of the abcess? Was it a tooth?

Yes, is was but unlike my mental image of a tooth that has abscessed the format is very different. When I think of an abscess tooth I think of what its like for humans but unlike us these creature have a tissue mass that starts to grow and then releases a HUGE amount of infected fluid. Her jaw looked like she had a golf ball, a hard golf ball stored in there. When the vet looked at her teeth she had broken one and they think that was the cause. Of course the guilt that overcame me was unbearable. HOW did I not notice she had a broken tooth?!?! The Dr did say that this can all occur very quickly and its not surprising I didnt notice but I hold my piggies daily, I should of noticed. She also had her teeth clipped. AAAHHHH!!!!!! But after that was done she ate consistently!! Crazy! We took her back for surgery today.

Well, she made it this far. And the best news is the vet was able to get the entire abscess!!! It had started to attach to her jaw so this was a miracle. Now the next few days are crucial for recovery. She HAS to eat in order to pull through this. Fred minced up some veggies really fine and shes SO sweet. She standing over them smelling them and I can tell she wants to eat but shes just in to much pain right now. You can see the surgery staples in her neck. They run from her lower lip to the base of her neck. This lil girl is a fighter. Wish us luck and send those good vibes this way.

3 cheers for our Howard!! Hip Hip Hooray!!

Did they give her any pain meds ? That could help her eat a little.  Sending lots of good vibes and luck for Howard. I think she will pull through she's surrounded with lots of love and great care.

It's very good to hear your pet is doing fine, OC1. She's definitely a tough girl. This is like surgery in an 80-90 yrs old. Surviving anesthesia was probably the toughest thing. And now she's eating?! It looks like she's going to be all right.

I'm glad the vet was able to operate.  I spent a ton of money on my last parakeet's surgery, but she was too far gone, cancer ridden, and died on the table.  At least I felt I'd done all I could for her.  I hope your Vince will soon bounce back to normal.

Damn, I didnt think of it that way. And I think that I will choose NOT to now.  ;)

Its devastating isnt it 6P? I mentioned recently that I had to put my 17yr old kitty down. I was NOT ready to say good-bye to another loved one so soon. Howard is the girl that had surgery and like Mischa mentioned Vince is her partner.

Thanks folks for the pat on the back and the internet hug. It was greatly appreciated.

5/26/2014 - My lil girl died in my arms today. I loved her very much and we are grieving deeply. Thanks for cheering us on friends. I REALLY appreciated the support.

That's cheering to see her bouncing back like that.  I hope she lives a long healthy life after this.
