6p recommended a documentary and only a minute into it I saw this staircase and it was love at first sight.
I wonder if I could find someone capable of doing a similar (even simpler!) ironwork in my staircase. I also wonder if I could afford it.  :D

You should be able to acheive something similar with bent steelwork and welds. You'd have to prime and paint as it would tarnish otherwise, and as for cost, if you chatted up a local metalworks I doubt it would cost that much.

That stair is of cast and wrought iron.  I don't know that much about steel, except that it might be harder to work.

That's exactly what my father told me! So far I've found tons of Spanish colonial pieces but not what I'm looking for. I've yet to talk to the man who could do it. Maybe I shouldn't lose hope yet.
