my wife has a  laptop

now how can i find / save all the drivers from this laptop
it runs vista and i wish to put XP  on it.
it came with no discs , i had to initially burn a recovery disc when it first loaded up
i don't want to dual boot

Install "Driver magician" and save all the drivers as an EXE.  Reformat, reload vista, click your driver back-up EXE and Bada-Bing Bada-boom..

Just a heads up.  The Vista Drivers might not be compatible with XP.  I'd do what smokester said but along with that, I'd download and install Everest to get an inventory of the hardware on the system and at the very least download and save the network card driver for XP.  This way, after the install, you will at least be able to get online and download the drivers for the other hardware that XP doesn't recognize (I would imagine it would recognize the majority of HW though).

Sorry I didn't see that you were downgrading to XP, and thought you were just reloading.  Dweez is obviously right in that definitely some of your Vista drivers will not work with XP so if you were to use an auto back-up prog you should save the drivers individually.

I actually use Belarc and not Everest but I would suppose they are the same, but a solution to your problem maybe something like "Driver Detective".  I originally thought that it was spyware and advised against it but after some research I realised it was kosher and nothing to be afraid of - read here.

You will have to make sure that you have your network card working ok so download the XP driver for that before you reload, then software like DD will seek all your other drivers for you.  It is an easy way to at least get your machine roughly to the way you want it, and then you can manually configure the fine tuning.

I used to think Everest was some cheap rip-off of Aida32, and didn't like it much.  Then I discovered it's like a sequel and decided to never tell this embarrassing story to anyone.

Windows XP will probably use some generic drivers to run certain things, but just as in the case of desktop PCs, you'll see all the hardware that needs specific drivers in your control panel.  That driver detective that I mentioned actually does all that for you, although I don't know what limitations a non registered version has.  But my brother in law who knows very little about all this kind of thing, managed to reload XP and DD sought out all the drivers automatically from the 2 million or so it has in its database.  I was pretty shocked to be honest as I was expecting having to spend half a day sorting it out for him but I ended up with more beer time instead..

Edit>  After another search I came up with this. I  think this should set you up well. http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK Fill in your info and click on what you need/want. I've also read (some place on the web) that the recovery disc may offer a downgrade option to Windows XP from the Vista version already installed on your  laptop (I cant swear it was for your model of the Satellite A300D-15B though.
