.Every once in a while my daughter asks me to tell her (again) how when I was little I only had 3 channels in my city (2 locals, 1 national) and I only had 2 hours/day of kids' shows: 1 hour of cartoons and the other hour was maybe Zorro, Batman, El Chavo but not much else. No wonder I played a lot of sports back then.
Oh, and TV used to close down at 12.30am on weekdays (perhaps 2am at weekends).
I forgot about that! Here it closed down at 12:00 and it was extended on Saturdays only if the movie or the boxing match was long. I don't remember exactly when cable landed in my city but I was already in college.
On Saturday nights BBC2 used to run a double bill of old horror movies that used to take you up to about 2am. Ironically, they are the best memories I have of watching any movie and initiated my love of old horror film and most 'old' films in general. Had they been more accessible, I wouldn't have paid them much attention at all.
