OUCH, so sorry for you.
I know how this feels,  this week i lost my hdd.

I've been using Recuva and it's fairly worked well. It's quick and easy and allows me to restore files along their original paths rather than just giving me one big folder full of random files, but it also leaves me with inaccurate file names.

As it is, it's not a horrible loss, it was just a percentage of the files I was seeding so I'm gonna end up taking the hit b/c I just have no interest in going through a bunch of folders, renaming everything and trying to match everything exactly as it was just so I can continue seeding. It's just not worth the effort. I really wish I knew what I did wrong in the first place to make Win8 see the whole drive as unreadable...

dweez, those look like useful tools.  I assume that Windows platforms have the equivalent of Mac's Time Machine, making automatic backups periodically to a designated drive (usually an external HD)?

The closest equivalent to Time Machine is probably System Restore but it's not nearly as user friendly as Time Machine.
