Black Widows are nasty business.  Not as nasty as some of the spiders native to Australia,
but nasty and prolific enough that they concern me when I find one in my closet  :o

On a related note, from what I read, the Golden Orb Weaver spins a web of similar
strength to the Black Widow.  If you haven't ever felt a Black Widow web, I can tell you
it is quite strong.

Thanks (?)  :D for those other pics Smokester.  That spider seriously does not look real.
Size, it doesn't matter to me so long as I get it...Gotta go now.

Those pics all look fake, and I'm hoping they are  :o

Well no, the first couple(or a couple of them, can't remember what order) did look kind of real.

It's so hard to tell now-a-days with every other person being a photoshop expert.  :P

That first one was snapped by someone called Les Martin who seems genuine enough, and here's another one eating a finch or something:

blech :-X

The two biggest spiders I saw near the lake. One was a black widow when I was liitle, I saw it fishing. The other I saw a couple of years ago.. it was so big I wouldn't look at it.. so I have no idea what it was.

It's weird.. I think spiders are really useful and beautiful.. but there's something at a primal level that just really bugs me about them. I especially hate it when they do that hoppy jumpy thing ???

Those "hoppy" ones are like spider ninjaz.

I don't mind spiders, if I catch one I put them outside or in the bath just to heard the wife scream.  ;D  :D

oh wow.  :o

The guy should have helped the bird instead of film the slow painful death.  :'(

Assuming it was still alive by that time.

Scary & sad.   :-\

It is just nature in all it's savage glory. The bird lives, the spider starves. It's no different from all the things we have seen about lions hunting.

true.  :P

I guess I was referring more to the environment of it all.

I mean the whole thing was taking place in someone's yard.

That gives a different feel than watching it or filming it where it would naturally occur.

Maybe I'm too soft.  :P

And I doubt a behemoth like that would die from skipping one meal for the day.  :D

Back yard's are a wilderness for a host of wild thing's, granted not all are as big as the politician. Every day is a struggle for life and death to some creature or another.

I don't know much about spiders. if they are like snake, one big meal might last then a few months.  ???

Yeah it was the spider's yard, Les Martin is simply the lodger.

Here's another and by this time Frank must definitely need a change of underwear - although I have heard, that is not uncommon in his case.

I would of swore that the spider eating the bird was fake until I showed the pics to my daighter and her Dad. He told me that in some latin american countries that this is not unusual at all and it very well could be legit.

Now that spider that wont die living around our mailbox doesnt seem quite as creepy.
