I use VLC from www.videolan.org for all my video watching needs.

I actually got rid of BS player pro & Beta and got the 2.43 free one,it's fine now,i only use MPC-HC for m2ts files.
VLC's ok with AVI's and stuff but the only mkv i was able to play was Pink Floyd Live In Pompeii, the rest the picture stutters,so it's BS for mkv's.

I may be  a bit late but under the View tab, click Options, click Playback (its expandable) then Output. Click on VMR7 (windowed) Hope all works for ya.
Like Dweez I also use vlc, I think its the best. I love its streaming features.

Thanks mate, the subs can't be hardcoded as BS can turn them off.
I got an H.264 NewArtRiot rip of the flick last nite, and burnt the 720p one to DVD as data.
VLC plays the H.264 one perfectly.
When i play 720p ones, all of a sudden im using too much CPU. ???

If I don't recall wrongly MajorTJKong in the Noid recommended Kmc Media Player for mkv but we can't check that out, can we.  :-\

I personally don't like it,i've tried it a few times, things go out of synch on it.
If MPC pull their fingers out,it'll be just as good for mkv.
BS is the best for quality for mkv both pic and sound.
