Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
« on: November 11, 2009, 03:36:50 PM »
As it turned out Morrisons was the cheapest place to buy it on the release day at just under ?26.

One of my boys got it for his birthday and finished it in 4hr 58mins, but he is a Call of Duty online addict.

But was it worth it, maybe for ?26, but not the ?45.  :-\

It does look poo hot and is one of the few games I have seen that can handle 1080p.

I've heard the dynamics of the mw2 single player are antiquated  and frustrating, like levels where there are an infinite number of enemies until you cross an invisible line, and a fairly common lack of cover.

That being said, I'm not buying the game. I won't support the destruction of modding, or a $10 increase on games across the board.

Activision bumped the price up because they knew they could gouge the customer base. I will not reward that.

In addition to blocking modifications, MW2 ends the concept of dedicated servers. You know, where you host and friends can join your server, and you don't have to deal with random assholes.

Instead, you get to do matchmacking through Infinity Ward, like in xbox live.
They've also expressed an interest in charging monthly fees.

That coward John Carmack said he's glad that Activision took the heat, and that future id games will not feature dedicated servers either.

On the other hand, The publishers of the upcoming Aliens Vs. Predator game have come out and stated that their game WILL feature dedicated servers.

The single player game is really very short...maybe 6-7 hours, but the game also has 2 other components that I have tried yet, the "Special Ops" co-op part and the multiplayer part.  I don't usually do much of the multiplayer for CoD so for me, I don't think it's worth the money but that might be your thing.

I finished it on regular mode in 8h 49m, on veteran mode in 23h 38m.

I have played online for about 20h and have went up the world ranking from 2,965,000 to 1,701,569. Online has the most challenges and unlock-able content I have ever seen in a game.

I will be playing it for a while to come online just to beat all the stuff.

IMO They should have taken into account the weapons and stuff you did through out the game into the stats for online mode.  :-\
I used a lot of different weapons when I ran out of ammo.  :-\

I got it for 360 as a Christmas present.

Single player story line was amazing, but had the inevitable cliffhanger.

It'd be nice if the campaign mode had co-op, I wanted to play with my friend.  I played that Special Ops bit though, that was fun.

Now Zoidberg is the popular one!

Yeah, certainly seems like it would be a great romp in co-op, but runs into a few issues, such as "no russian"

I mean how would they get two...

Prestige 10 level 70, got the titles for all all the primary weapons, still most of the secondary weapons and a couple of game modes I don't play to get, but game about finished. Still like playing search and destroy with friends (your shoot, your dead, no respawn)
