I'm sure they still exist, but I haven't set eyes on a Boy scout or Girl guide in many years, nor do I know of anyone who has children involved with the organisation.
I remember a few years back when Girlguiding UK brought out the "guide to living for modern girls", which aimed to teach the girls Microsoft Word, how to assemble flat-pack furniture and making sure they practise safe sex. Maybe the end of the learning semaphore, making beds and lighting fires days, was the final nail in the coffin? Without semaphore, it had little else to offer IMO.
