for one my ex kept telling me that it was out of fashion and how everbody he knows would get rid of their body hair. (I haven't really talked about it with many other people and we broke up only recently)

Hairy armpits are a bit odd to me as well.  Most of the people I know shave their armpits.

That's interesting. When I used to watch To Kill A Mockingbird in my younger years, I used to think Jem was cute. And funny that in the film his name is Jeremy and his nickname is Jem, which is Renner's nickname in The Town.
