You know that virtually all of London and the country as a whole hated that logo and made that fact known.  It made no difference as the company that dreamt it up still got a fortune for it we got stuck with both a logo that we didn't want and the Olympics which was even more unpopular.

Doesn't help either when you go half a billion over budget and then remember that you'll also need ?10bn for the security measures.

Quite true.

Olympics are almost spoiled nowadays, original idea is somewhere backround when multinational companies showing their products and athletics looks like trademarks.

I wish they had a contest that mattered.

Like:

A car with 3 crash test dummies are dropped from a crane, firefighters from around the world
have to cut them out ASAP, in a safe and professional matter.

Each FF team would of course do it on a separate car, can't have 700 FF work on one car... BUT:

THAT would take skills and teamwork, not drugs or high-performance shoes...

How about olympics that mean something?
Maybe they can have an event where several world leaders come to gether and see who can figure out global peace the fastest?
Maybe an event where they see who can stop starvation?
You know,, its just an idea.
Perhaps an event, where teachers teach kids the read!

The olympics are just an elitist corporate gimmick to make money.
very few games make money.most make a vast loss or use to.
the 2012 wont make money because their in the uk London.
as said what a waste of time .
how we are going to compete with the Beijing Olympics i will never know.
the best the UK could hope for is a downsized understated opening ceremony
and emphasize the sports .( i know even the sports are sponsored to hell but we could hope)

They could employ them Hackney goons to mug all the tourists.  I don't like Hackney, they look at you funny.

Now Zoidberg is the popular one!
