While I'm stuck here in the middle of London, that very generous offer of yours is actually quite depressing.

Goldie, if you hate the overlay scrollbars, check out this page to disable them.

I just upgraded my "test" box to 11.10 and THEN tried to install Gnome 3 (cuz I hate Unity and 11.10 got rid of Ubuntu Classic).  I hate it.  Evidently Gnome 3 is best installed on a clean install, not an upgrade.  So, I'm now currently on the hunt for a new replacement build.  Wouldn't mind staying with a Debian-based build--I prefer apt-get and we have some Debian-based servers at work--but am considering Gentoo or ArchLinux too.

try crunchbang linux http://crunchbanglinux.org/blog/2010/03/19/development-release-crunchbang-10-statler-alpha-1/ pretty clean and based on debian. give this a go.
fedora 15 is a excellent piece of kit also.

i have gone through a few of late.
zorin is a east transition from windows to linux. everything works out of the box.
linux mint debian is a great piece of kit.
