LOS ANGELES, March 9 (Xinhua) -- The lead actor of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" Andy Whitfield announced Tuesday that he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma."I'm receiving excellent care, and am feeling strong, positive and determined with an army of support behind me," the Welsh-Australian actor said in a statement.The disease was discovered during a routine checkup as he prepared for the sophomore season of the cable series. Premiered in January, the series' first season finale is set to air on April 16th.The second season was scheduled to begin shooting shortly in New Zealand, but has been postponed to accommodate the actor's treatment, according to Starz, the network."Doctors have stated his condition is very treatable, and was detected in its early stages," the statement said.Whitfield gained his first prominent role in the Australian supernatural film "Gabriel." In "Spartacus", he plays the part of Spartacus, a soldier condemned to fight as a gladiator and who ultimately leads a rebellion against the Romans.
