1080p mkv file
« on: March 20, 2010, 12:38:36 AM »
I have Full Metal Jacket as a 1080p mkv file,it's big at 14GB.
Thing is all my other 1080p's play fine but they're m2ts.
Can anyone suggest a player to play it?
It might be my hardware's not up to the job.

Same poo with VLC the sound's fine but the pic freezes.
  I've got a PCI Express Graphics card,so you'd think it'd play it.

I had some issues with some mkv files on VLC.  I think I ended up using BSPlayer to view them and it worked fine.

Good suggestion. If vlc has a problem mplayer usually remedies it.
It's installed along with the real or quicktime alternative installers for windows.

Although under windows 7 (and maybe vista, not tried) running mplayer can cause the colour theme to change while it's running which is not good from an aesthetic perspective.

Have you considered the option that it might be the video file itself and not the player?

The comments on the file are all positive,a couple of moans about file size, but quality's fine, allegedly!
This comp's coming apart tonite anyway, she needs a tune up.
Fresh OS install,maybe Windows 7.

Ooops... I said Mplayer when I was thinking of mplayerc i.e. media player classic.
I tried Mplayer once on a mkv file that VLC couldn't play with the same negative result although mplayerc could play it (through real alternative package), the slider bar didn't work so you couldn't skip through the video.
