USB not being detected
« on: March 31, 2010, 07:55:53 AM »
I plugged my USB cable in to access my fone, and im not getting the tone,or the recognition that it's been detected.
I've just put another XP on this machine, aren't they installed as standard?
Or do i need to go to device manager, and do an uninstall, and then reboot?

Which XP service pack version are you using?
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

Even on other systems sometimes one of my usb enabled devices deosn't get recognized. Then I unplug, replug.. and give it another go. It could just be a simple thing like rebooting like you suggested.

I don't understand.  You're plugging in your USB to access your "fone"?  Not sure exactly what you mean here but if you just reinstalled XP and this is the first time you're plugging the USB device into your computer since the reinstall, you might have to reinstall the device drivers.

For my Sony Ericsson G502 and K660, I had to install the PC Suite before the machine recognised it.  But even then, I'm pretty sure windows came up with the Add New Hardware thing.  Does that come up?

Now Zoidberg is the popular one!

Not getting the 'tone' doesn't sound like a mobile and in truth I'm with Dweezy - i.e. 'confused'.

The only thing that popped into my head that could make since were if the device in question was a VOIP phone (Skype, Vonage, etc).  If that IS the case, XP would still need to have the driver installed before the device would work properly.

i always find it easier just to use the memory card and transfer via a card reader.
