According to news redports here int he US,, the volcano isnt abating, its getting worse.
 This is a major crisis for Western Europe.
Damn,, makes me worry ,, I feel like " Home " is in trouble.

It is only my mainland European friends that are really being affected by this as their schools here in the uk are closed now while the English stream schools are back on monday.  They had intended to go on holiday or visit the homeland next week but there stuck here in the scorching sunshine..

Millions of stranded travellers face further air chaos as the volcanic ash from Iceland that has closed most of Europe's airspace continues to spread.

An estimated three-quarters of flights were cancelled on Saturday. About 20 countries closed their airspace - some have extended flight bans into Monday.

Scientists say the Icelandic volcano activity shows no sign of abating.

Dutch airline KLM and German airline Lufthansa have carried out test flights to see if it is safe for planes to fly.

KLM said its plane, a Boeing 737, had reached its maximum operating altitude of about 13km in the skies over the Netherlands, and there had been no problems during the flight.

The aircraft and its engines were being inspected for possible damage. After the results of that technical inspection the airline hopes to get permission from the aviation authorities to start up operations again.

I just had to drive 500 miles home because no aeroplanes are flying.

I am now officially grumpy - and upset with Iceland. Driving 500 miles on UK roads, on a Friday, including the M5 and the M6, is NOT funny.

I had the feeling it wasn't some kind of random event.

As i don't take in the news I don't know what's really going on with the volcano. Anyhow I was thinking what if the eruption spewed out volcanic ash for the next 3 years. They would have to reroute all flights and would be costly and we would end up paying up to 4 times the current ticket price to fly.
Just a few days of inconvenience I think nature is being kind to us.

I am surprised that Greenpeace aren't picketing Eyjafjallaj?kull to get it to stop all of this ash production.

I'm almost tempted to mass circulate that comment to my friends it's so funny - although 'mass' might be a bit of an exaggeration in my case.

Europe's airlines and airports question flight bans.



Europe's air industry has called for an urgent review of flight bans imposed because of volcanic ash from Iceland.

The bodies representing most European airlines and airports have questioned the need for the unprecedented curbs, which affect millions of travellers.

Airlines that have carried out test flights say planes showed no obvious damage after flying through the ash.

EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas said he hoped 50% of Europe's airspace would be risk-free on Monday.

He said the current situation was "not sustainable" and European authorities were working to find a solution that did not compromise safety.

We cannot just wait until this ash cloud dissipates," he added.

Mr Kallas also said EU transport ministers would hold a video teleconference on Monday to assess the situation. About 17 European countries have closed their airspace.

Europe's air industry is really worried how much they lost and hundreds thousands passengers around the world are stuck in airports,hotels,etc.so angry customers eat them alive soon if nothing happen.

The ash cloud is due to reach the east coast of the USA in about three more hours, presumably it will have thinned out a lot by then so shouldn't be too much of a problem.

In a round about way it effected the people on the east coast participating in the Boston Marathon. Lots of people had to cancel plans to be there because they couldn't get flights to the event. They recieved vouchers for next year so they don't have to requalify for next year, or lose their entry fees.

And I don't know if people can reach this link.. but SNL did a funny fake interview with Bjork where she sang the volcano a song to help it go back to sleep.
