Sorry to have to say it, but the Mexico/Argentina was another non-game for me because of the controversial off-side goal.  Mexico had a lack of concentration for 20 minutes following that decision which contributed to the second goal and threatened to shape the rest of the game.  Mexico were gutsy enough to get on with the game in the second half but if it had ended 3-2 it would have opened a very nasty can of worms.

Years of preparation, lengthy qualifying process, tricky group stage games, and a teams fate is decided by easily rectified technical errors.  It was bad enough Sepp Blatter laughing at Ireland after they sought some justice for their unfair exit, but these latest incidents just make him the biggest joke in football - keep laughing Sepp, what goes around comes around.

Friday Netherlands - Brazil could be excellent if Netherlands can fix their leaking defence.

Paul's current prediction is he wants to be set free, return to the ocean, find a girlfriend and have babies ...and quit being used for really stupid human experiments :D

Yes but that's after the World Cup. The TV reception is appalling at the bottom of the Pacific.

Skadi, you've got to admit, as stupid human experiments go, Paul got a much better one then he could have.

Is there a sport more thrilling and exciting than football?!?!

Have you watched Uruguay vs. Ghana? Unbelievable. Or not. Because that's the beauty of football. Anything can happen.

Abreu every once in a while does that when kicking penalties. But Ghana didn't know about him.

I didn't have a favourite in the Uruguay/Ghana match, but it seems wrong that Ghana went out thanks to cheating.
