If you hear a clicking, it's your hard drive.
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

There is an exception to every rule, apart from this one.

I currently only have a SSD. If it starts clicking I'll sell it on Flea-bay for the big money. ;D

I sympathize.  Machines are great when they work and can drive you nuts when they don't.

My scanner now has a slipping belt, so every time I turn on the printer it makes these godawful sounds and then gives me an error message.  I just loaded another inkjet cartridge into it, but I'm now shopping around for a laser printer because I'm tired of paying for the Unicorn Blood priced ink for this inkjet.  It uses color every time it prints b/w prints.  WTF.

It usually does that when it's out of black ink.

Just put 3 new colour print cartridges, every one came up with separate messages first did I know it was not a genuine HP cartridge and was it sold as such, then the next message came up asking if I would like to proceed.

Nope.  It's designed to use color for b/w prints because that way "it keeps the print heads clean" which is Epson's way of saying they like to bleed its customers dry for the price of ink and if they only had the black ink work when you needed it, they'd make less money.

Thanks, Chris. I actually really appreciate the suggestion as I'm now looking for a laser printer w/scan function.  I still don't have a smartphone.

We bought the cheapest HP printer Big Lots had because the ink is cheap. Been using it for about 4 years now. I have an old Lexmark scanner/printer with no ink. I just save the scans and print them on the HP.

No more epsons for me after the last experience.

If I had the room I'd run the printer until it died, but I really only have space for one device.  The guy my husband shares space with at work bought a nice Brother that prints color and scans.  I'm tempted to ask how much he paid, but I fear that laser printers of that level of functionality cost 2-300 bucks...

found a local place that refills ink cartridges, my B&W plus color cartridges refilled cost me $26 Canadian, tax included (HP printer), less than half the price of new ones, and their guaranteed to work just as well (and they do).

I still but ultra cheap, 3rd party cartridges (about £1.20 a throw) and they work perfectly in my printer.  I had to buy a chip resetter a while back to get rid of the Epson nagging, but I rarely use it.
