I can't believe how many people ring me up and ask how to get shot of Windows 8.  That whole secure boot things has a lot to answer for.  I think a less aggressive approach may have given the OS a fighting chance, but like with most things, if you try and ram it down people's throats they tend to get a little irritated.

You might also have to disable the Fast Boot system that's hidden in a System Settings screen under Power Options.

Windows really doesnt like you messing with their kit.

Funny though, when you go to buy a laptop, unless its an Apple, Windows is always installed.
sort of a forced monopoly almost.

It isn't really about Microsoft's software, it was about them having the hardware set to suit them.  The OS and the computer should remain 2 separate entities while it isn't MS manufacturing the the latter.

You can buy laptops with Linux installed. Even Dell makes a couple.

You "can" but you'd have to purposefully look for them and/or force the sales tech into admitting it.  You should also be able to finagle it to get no OS at all.  I wouldn't know though since the only laptops I've used are from work (and running whatever I decide to put on them) and the only desktops I've owned are Franken-puters (I buy the parts and assemble it myself).

You can also buy Windows 8 without buying a computer. However, you would have to keep it in a locked box to stop it from copulating with any nearby hardware.

In the UK they are hard to find, overpriced or crap.

Be nice to be offered a laptop with nothing on or choose the O/S.

Microsoft have bought the pc to the masses and we should be grateful for that.

Funny that considering most linux distros are free.

The first eee's shipped with a custom linux distro.

::) i agree, for some reason they build the laptop with so high a spec it could run the entire world, then say hey it runs on linux buy me at a incredulous price.

They dont realise a lower spec laptop would suffice

I've just bought myself one of these off Ebay for around £350:

http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/business/business-products/notebook-pc/series-7/XE700T1A-A03HK

Mine ships with Win8

Can't be arsed with Android tablets any more. They rarely compete with my phone anyhow.
