The Obligatory Game Discussion Thread
« on: February 13, 2009, 03:27:00 AM »
I thought why not the guys post their experience of a game which the others might/might no have played and compare it with other games of the same or different kind. Why? well, reviews on game sites & even pix can never replace a 1st hand account, plus if I'd want to know another game of a genre that i like, the only best guide for finding an exactly similar game or an even better one would be you guys, people who have actually played it. Then if a certain game requires much more detailed discussion, we can always make a new thread for it. So:

Let the Games Begin

Game name: ASSAULTCUBE

Type: FPS

Recommendation: VERY HIGH

What makes this different from other FPS..?

Uhm...

Not sure...

BUT...

It's free...

Yeah, thats right... it's FREEEEEEEEEEE...

There's a high number of players there (50+ minimum, in my experience), loads of maps, including "home made" ones...

fast pace, quick killing (annoying at times, yes) and fun for the whole family... (if your a family of homicidal maniacs... hmmm... that sentence reminds me of my last family reunion, but I digress...)

Download here: Fancy colors mean "click me"

P.S.: If you get shot by a guy named MisterAJ... (there any point of finishing that sentence..?) ;D

I really liked Warcraft II , it was like Command & Conquer except it was with Elves & Orcs, it played the same way.

But I couldn't get into Warcraft III, I didn't like the changes in graphics or the flashing, spinning circle thing round the characters.

Has anyone played Warcraft III and could convince me it's worth persevering with. ?   :-\

I have...

Came a long way too, but then I lost my save game, and I had come to this ridiculously hard level, so...

I never bothered picking it up again, but it's a decent enough game...

Is it worth persevering in..?

Eh...

Little bit...

I mean, it could be fun, but not something I recommend any form of dedication to... (casual playing is better, me thinking over here...)

Thanks Rev MAJ

It's just that I bought the Frozen Throne expansion at the same time. I will give it another go.

Cool...

I'm usually at a map called "Dust2"...

It's the one that holds up to 42 players... (can be full at times, and be warned: it's a slaughter house)

You'll get into it soon enough...

Try some of the less crowded maps until you get into the groove of the game...

I just started playing Dragon Age 2 which I'd heard could take the shine off the first one due to its inferiority. Straight off the bat I can understand why as it is far less intuitive and actually feels like a sci-fi game more than a medieval, fantasy RPG.

Animation is great but it took me an hour to adjust the video settings and update various drivers just to get the game to run.  They have also knocked out just about all the chit chatting with the team members to raise their approval of you, it appears you have to rely on giving them gifts to secure their loyalty (hey, gifts have always done it for me).

So far, so bland and I'm hoping that it will pick up in act II.  If not, then I may just blitz through it and wait till next year (or the year after) for the third edition of the series.

I don't suppose anyone else has played this? Bea perhaps?

I finished Dragon Age 2 a few days ago and compared to the first installment, it was shite.

I miss it though as few games of that genre have such rich graphics and gameplay.

I might buy Kingdoms of Amalur next but I need to freeze time to play it.

I'm playing Dead Island. I heard horrible reviews so I dismissed it early on, but now that I'm playing it it's not so bad. I like it so far. I think it's kinda like Condemned meets Borderlands.

I've been playing Descent, because they've made it playable on newer machines, and I never finished the shareware version.

Using the mouse to look is really slow and annoying, you'd be better off with a joystick.  Somehow, I used to manage this game with just the keyboard - I had skillz?

Now Zoidberg is the popular one!

I've got Descent for Playstation 1. It's not a bad port and iirc the controls take a little while to get used to, but after that they are not too bad.
